Big! Bulky! Beautiful! (Un)Happy People!

Obesity ... Beauty Craze ... Bodybuilding ... looks that kill?

– #A brief uneasy essay upon request –

People don't die of old age, they die of neglect. Invest in yourself now and reap the dividends day after day after month after year. (Jack LaLanne)

KICK OFF | ARPEGGIO!

Most recently, a number of requests on writing an article about Health and Fitness ‘ve been received – thank you.

Of course, this contribution bears an undeniable (personal) bias and introduces a considerable degree of incompleteness. At any rate, it ‘s to be seen as an incentive to caring for and taking care of one's overall physical condition, particularly throughout all Stages of Adulthood.

To begin with, tapping into Health should require Experts such as Biologists and Nutritionists to be sharing their profound advice and findings. Enquiring into Fitness ought to recommend, leaving it to the Chiropractors, Physiotherapeuts, Sports Scientists, Professional Athletes.

What about short-lived successes vs longevity and how about staying healthy ... keeping in shape?

Well-Being?

Well, one may find tons of reliable and dubious Information on feelin‘ good – physically and psychically.

The author merely qualifies for sharing a personal narrative[1], providing the personal(ised) context for the subject matter. Readers may wish to be exercising leniency in regard to enduring a significant degree of romanticism, for early childhood provided so many defining moments for his life.

On the issue, in fact, a few Publications[2] having been shared already, address the causes and effects of Obesity either explicitly or peripherally by means of Digitisation accounting for a broadening and sustainable scope of societal inactivity and immobility by physical means. Moreover, Celebrities' Media Impact on Today's Youth Culture[3] features a video on the Hollywood-driven Beauty Craze.

Familiarising with the professional and popular Bodybuilding Scene suggests tapping into the www-driven[4] mushrooming Communities of Fitness Hipsters on Social Media[5], notoriously trying to equal their beloved celebrities‘ notoriety, excellence and income (!?), no matter at what cost.

Against the backdrop of aforementioned topic selections, readers may not be expecting any kind of distinguished socio-psycho-pathological elaboration. Instead, studying the according sources is to be rendering a maximum degree of enlightenment at a minimum of time and effort to be invested.

CHILDHOOD NARRATIVE | GOOD MORNING AQUARIUS!

In July1968 a little lad experienced a slew of recreational Awakenings.

His parents prescribed him and his sister half an hour of daily! Swimming Lessons at Pool-Side in the vicinity of Oakville Drive, Allegheny County/Pittsburgh. Frequent excursions to Lake Erie were also enjoyed, where Life-Guards seemed to be impersonating e.g. Susan Dey[6] ... Sally Field[7] ... Rita Coolidge[8]; Chuck Connors[9] ... Clint Walker[10] ... Mark Spitz[11].

While having breakfast, prior to getting dressed and being dropped off at Point Park Nursery School, little Cal n his Sis used to enjoy watching Morning Show TV (ABC, NBC, CBS) on a PhilippsT-Vette[12]: Batman[13] (and Robin) ... Gentle Ben[14] (everglades forever!) ... Flipper[15] (at that time, almost all Boys n Girls were wearing cut n bleached Jeans with fringed legs like Sandy n Bud) ... Seahunt[16] (Lloyd Bridges, the real deal!) ... Tarzan[17] sequels (Johnny Weissmueller‘s Primal Scream and Swimming Style had already set the Standard for Lex Barker and Ron Elly) ... The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau[18] (wow!) ... Voyage To The Bottom of The Sea[19] (deep, deeper, deepest!) ... Wild Kingdom[20] (Mutual of Omaha's – Marlin Perkins’ and Jim Fowler’s excursions and dives!)lasting impressions.

One (early) morning, he saw Jack LaLanne[21] watching him appearing on his Morning Show[22]. Effortlessly, Mr V-Taper was doing jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups and much more! seeming like a Superhero ... Circus Performer ... Gymnast made from one piece. That day, LaLanne made a lasting impression on Cal Jr as much as he ‘s had a life-long impact on the author’s understanding and pursuance of body culture to this day.

BULKY HAPPY PEOPLE | (R)EVOLUTION!

Back to Obesity[23]: Oh my God! 100 kg! 36.5 kg of overweight! It ‘s been only 10 years ever since I graduated from Highschool!

What 's happened to me?!

Good question! 10 g of intake (calorie consumption) per day in excess of (basic) need ‘ve creepingly resulted in a considerable amount of Overweight – and xx(x)l dress size: 10 g (per day) ∙ 365 (days) ∙ 10 (years) = 36.500 g / 36.5 kg. // 15 years: 54.75 kg / 20 years: kg 73 / 30 years: 109.5 kg etc. ––– 1 g of Body Fat = 7.716179 kcal / 10 g of Body Fat = 77.16179 kcal ––– A single 58 g Mars Chocolate Bar contains 260 kcal = 33.69 g (Body) Fat!

What else?

A Litre Bottle of Coca Cola bears 420 kcal. Almost exclusively, so-called empty calories derive from synthesised sugar providing just a feeling of satiety. Coke's Quantity of Carbon Dioxide certainly accounts for compulsory burping. In fact, its synthesised sugar doesn't provide any Energy Boost. In contrast, Dextrose (GI Score 100) raises Blood Glucose Levels almost instantly upon utilisation!

Any further questions?

How about the most viral activities accompanying too much of daily Intake?

Habitually, Eatin‘, Barbecuein’, Chillin' N Watchin' TV account for such growing experiences.

What're the most frequent Drugs in use, especially in the privileged Hemisphere of the World?

Fat N Sugar of course!

Amazingly, worldwide obesity[25] has been quantitatively on par with global malnutrition over the past decade!

Who is to blame for the obesity epidemic?[26]

Is obesity perhaps to be considered a kind of an unwanted process of evolutionary body modification?[27]

Apparently, most of the people are able to keep track of their transfer account's credits and debits, keen on maintaining at least a marginal balance. Regardless of intelligence, this doesn't seem to apply to the daily intake and utilisation of carbohydrates in the long term.

In being confronted with their Physique's Statistics of Truth the hard way, too many People seem to be afraid of acknowledging the acute consequences of their Life-Time of Neglect.

Prescriptions on reversing the metabolic process of Obesity, commonly raises paradoxic questions among those people (being) concerned: How do I do that? ... What should I do? ... Will slimming down be taking me another x amount of years? ... Should I be undergoing surgery? ... … Should I be committing suicide? … How many g of RSPs (rapid slimming pills) per day would I require for achieving standard/ideal weight within a week’s/month's/year‘s time?

Sure!

Inspite of effortless bulking over the years/decades, Losing weight, jeeze! ... Engaging in physical activities, oh my God! ... Doing sports is so f#ckin' hard! ... What you’re asking me to do is simply inhumane! ... It ‘s too late! ... express common attitudes of self-imposed comfort and idleness, depression and despair.

In a nutshell, as the most favoured drug, i.e. sugar yields Obesity, the most favoured habit, i.e. physical inactivity/inertia amplifies Sarcopenia[28]. Inspite of their overweight it ‘s quite likely, bulky people ‘ve never heard of natural decay of muscle mass: Starting at the age of 30 onwards, 0.3–0.8% of muscle loss per year! / age of 50 onwards, 1–2% of muscle loss per year! / age of 70 onwards up to 3% of muscle loss per year!

Obesity (excess gain in body fat) and Sarcopenia[29] (excess loss in muscle mass as of age 30, itself sparking Obesity) are to be considered a fatal(ly normal) Axis of Physical Deterioration accounting for a variety of diseases such as Diabetes[30], Cardiovascular Disease[31] (cardiac hypertension, irregularity and infarction) and Osteoporosis[32], inevitably causing severe inhibition of the state of livability and well-being as much as pre-mature care-dependency and eventually, death.

Any further questions?

Now, Ageing 's supposed to be a growing experience by various encouraging means, not necessarily in the aforementioned sense and scope of (in)voluntary tragedy in the sense of a slow suicide.

Shame on you Cal!!!

Ready for an Excursus?

Here we go, merely mentioning these facts could be tempting a considerable number people to assume, the author depreciated their State of Physical Condition by means of hinting at the Societal Cost of Obesity[33] in terms of Physiotherapy and Surgery, Drug Administration and Medical Treatment.

In fact, such defensive interpretation, if not personal and ethical devaluation of undeniable facts simply reflects on a considerable lack of self-awareness and -nurturing in regard to the Causes and Consequences of one's Physique and Health.

How about other health care-driven costs?

Among other lethal diseases much less known, e.g. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)[34], Alzheimer’s[35], Cancer[36], Dementia[37], Multiple Sclerosis[38], Parkinson‘s[39] etc. are considered treatable, nonetheless, still proving incurable.

As a matter of fact, Products serving specific purposes of socialising and seduction such as Alcohol and Tobacco, legitimate and illegitimate Drugs being consumed in excess of reasonable doses – whatever that should suggest – yield fatal Health Hazards requiring medical treatment also suggesting a considerable burden of soci(et)al cost.

Traditional Standards to Commercial Labour (hard work)[40] and contemporary Requirements to digitised Administrative Work (24/7/365)[41] also result in a considerable soci(et)al loss of damage to be compensated for in terms of an Extreme Physical and Psych(olog)ical Makeover.

Furthermore, Environmental Pollution, i.e. man-made Climate Change[42] ‘s increasingly been imposing its toll on the originators located in the Developed Countries and of course, the global Population altogether.

BEAUTY CRAZIES | SEXXY TO THE MAXX!

I'm Too Sexy!

This chapter ‘s gonna be a quick-fix in the figurative sense of when you see it you know it, i.e. ... The Online-Self[43] ... Instagram Face[44] ... Looks Maxxing[45] ... Mewing[46] ... Body Modification[47] ... Plastic Surgery for Teenagers[48].

How about Babies?

How about Adults N Seniors?

Neither McLuhan[49] nor Postman[50] or Lasch[51] would've foreseen such a Social Media Hype sparking a 24/7/365 Culture of (Youthful) Narcissism. By the way, a couple of Songs[52] have already introduced the issue.

BIG BODYBUILDERS | PIANAHULKSTER!

Apparently, today's proporters of the Sports[53], Fitness[54] and Bodybuilding Industry[55] primarily encourage back office sitters and condominium couch potatoes to aim for approximating extraordinary physical Shape, suggesting various means of Workouts as much as recommending Performance Enhancing Substances[56] and Site Enhancements[57].

Despite the support of technical equipment, the contemporary Workforce of Men and Women still engaging in classic Professions[58] demanding for a high degree of physical Action and Endurance, don't commence workouts.

During his rather short(ened) life-time, Rich Piana[59], a Social Media Celebrity and Self-Made Artwork of a Human Max(xx)imus by means of Muscle-Tattoo-Per-Pound used to advertise e.g. 8h Arm Workouts[60] for gaining Mass and Strength within 24hs.

Wow, what a (Life-)Time Management!

Along commencing his workouts using common exercise equipment[61], Larger-Than-Life Rich enjoyed all kinds of Supplements[62], Site-[63] and Performance-Enhancing Substances[64], most notably AAS[65] such as Trenbolone[66] rendering extreme results, fast!

Piana reported, his Quality and Quantity of Intake included Side-Effects like uncontrollable Oscillations of Aggression and rendered a permanent State of exuberant Venereal Desire.

Just wondering, how much time he utilised on average for drinking 16 Shakes (of whatsoever), having BMs ... engaging in quickies ... Just feelin' horny all the time, bro! … or requiring time-outs at random, having to beat the shit out of someone[67] at the Gym.

What could be more meaningful in today's Mad World than doing full-time workouts at the Gym?

How about earning a living on hard work, the natural way?

Anyway, Pianaman, RIP!

The Popular and Professional Bodybuilding Scene of x-shaped Michelin (Wo)Men, Community of HerculeSulekian[68] Wanna-Bees and Crowds of Insta Face/Poster Body Followers being game for anything, reminisce of the Animal Feed-Up[69] Industry – it 's all about Intake[70] and Implants[71] (e.g. steroid hormone implants used for growth in food-producing animals).

Are such human live stock up for Sale?

Yum ... yum yum![72]

Just one more thing ... is Female Bodybuilding[73] ... sexy?

Once upon a time ... there was Rachel McLish ... Red Hot!

[26] Who is to blame for the obesity epidemic?

[27] Body modification (Wikiped)

[28] Sarcopenia (Wikiped)

[29] Muscle tissue changes with aging - PMC (nih.gov): One of the most striking effects of age is the involuntary loss of muscle mass, strength, and function, termed sarcopenia [1–3]. Muscle mass decreases approximately 3–8% per decade after the age of 30 and this rate of decline is even higher after the age of 60 [4,5]. This involuntary loss of muscle mass, strength, and function is a fundamental cause of and contributor to disability in older people. This is because sarcopenia increases the risks of falls and vulnerability to injury and, consequently, can lead to functional dependence and disability [6,7]. A decrease in muscle mass is also accompanied by a progressive increase in fat mass and consequently changes in body composition, and is associated with an increased incidence of insulin resistance in the elderly [1,4,5,8]. Furthermore, bone density decreases, joint stiffness increases, and there is a small reduction in stature (kyphosis). All these changes have probable implications for several conditions, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and osteoporosis. ––– An overview of sarcopenia: facts and numbers on prevalence and clinical impact - PubMed (nih.gov): Human muscle undergoes constant changes. After about age 50, muscle mass decreases at an annual rate of 1-2%. Muscle strength declines by 1.5% between ages 50 and 60 and by 3% thereafter. The reasons for these changes include denervation of motor units and a net conversion of fast type II muscle fibers into slow type I fibers with resulting loss in muscle power necessary for activities of daily living. In addition, lipids are deposited in the muscle, but these changes do not usually lead to a loss in body weight. Once muscle mass in elderly subjects falls below 2 standard deviations of the mean of a young control cohort and the gait speed falls below 0.8 m/s, a clinical diagnosis of sarcopenia can be reached. Assessment of muscle strength using tests such as the short physical performance battery test, the timed get-up-and-go test, or the stair climb power test may also be helpful in establishing the diagnosis. Sarcopenia is one of the four main reasons for loss of muscle mass. On average, it is estimated that 5-13% of elderly people aged 60-70 years are affected by sarcopenia. The numbers increase to 11-50% for those aged 80 or above. Sarcopenia may lead to frailty, but not all patients with sarcopenia are frail-sarcopenia is about twice as common as frailty. Several studies have shown that the risk of falls is significantly elevated in subjects with reduced muscle strength. Treatment of sarcopenia remains challenging, but promising results have been obtained using progressive resistance training, testosterone, estrogens, growth hormone, vitamin D, and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. Interesting nutritional interventions include high-caloric nutritional supplements and essential amino acids that support muscle fiber synthesis.
